Something I stumbled upon...: I Want You to be Happy “Wow, people still talk in these chat rooms nowadays? There are so many people online today, maybe I should join one of these chat rooms and see what all the fuss is about.” Danielle scrolls down the list of chat rooms, looking for a chat room that might appeal to her. “Let’s see…American Idol Fans, The 18-25 Group, Happily Married, Angelina Jolie’s Hot, Backstreet Boys are Awesome, Single and Looking (Ages 28-35), Art Lovers… wait wait… Single and Looking aye? Hm… I’m single, and yes I am definitely looking…har har,” she chuckles pitifully as she clicks on the chat room. Last Sunday, she turned thirty. A co-worker of Danielle’s had thrown her a surprise party. Danielle was, of course, shocked at the fact that her friends actually remembered her birthday. Unfortunately, she had hoped they had forgotten about it. Danielle didn’t want to turn thirty. In fact, she dreaded for this day to come. All her life she had hoped to be happily married at the age of 25. When she was 23, she began to search for her lifetime partner. Danielle tried different ways to find her ideal man: blind dates, speed dates, bars, clubs, and friends’ parties. The right man never crossed her path. Seven years of hopeless attempts to seek for her prince in shining armor had left her deeply concerned about her future. “Ha ha! This MisterPete32 guy is hilarious! What’s this? He just sent me an IM. Well hello to you too Mr. Pete,” she grins at her computer screen as she types some witty remarks to MisterPete32. A simple instant message from MisterPete32 sparked a long distance relationship between Danielle and Peter. They continue to chat for six months and surprisingly fell in love. After what seemed like a year, Danielle and Peter decided to meet with each other in person. June 1st, 2:30 PM, San Francisco BART Station - in front of the SF Shopping Mall. It was decided. They would meet with each other for the very first time. “2:25 PM…I’m still early, no need to rush… I wonder if Danielle’s already here at the BART station…” Kevin spoke to himself. As Kevin approached her and saw her from a distance, he said to himself, “She is even more beautiful in person”. Kevin had seen Danielle’s picture before through the internet. He, however, had always been self-conscious about himself. He never liked taking pictures, so he wasn’t able to send her his pictures. Kevin slowly approaches her and she aimlessly looked around and noticed a stranger next to her. Kevin greets her with a “Hi there,” as he smiles at her. Danielle, not knowing this man was Kevin, greets him back and says, “Hi!! I’m so excited today! I’m finally going to meet the man of my dreams,” she grins and spaces out, “You know… it has always been a dream of mine to spend a magical day at the beach with the man of my dreams. See, it’ll be so perfect. First, we’ll walk on the beach together, hand-in-hand, and let the gentle tide wash up on our feet. Then at night, we’ll lie down together on the sand and stare at the beautiful sparkling stars. Perhaps we’ll even dance with each other under the moonlight. Gosh, it’ll be so romantic. Ha ha. I’m so sorry, you must think I’m a total nutcase rambling on and on about this stupid dream of mine. So are you here waiting for someone too?” “Oh, um…yeah. I was, but I doubt she’ll make it on time. She’s probably too caught up at work. My friend’s always like that.” He lies. “Oh, I’m sorry to hear that, maybe you should give her a call.” “Oh don’t worry about it, I’ll call her when I get home,” he lies again, as he spins the red rose back and forth between his index finger and thumb. The rose slips through his fingers and lands right in front of his feet. He can’t pick up the rose; it’s out of his reach. “It’s okay, I got it,” as Danielle graciously picks up the rose and catches a glimpse of his feet hidden under a fleece blanket, resting on the footrest of the wheelchair. She smiles, and hands him the red rose. “Thanks, you have a beautiful smile. Wow, look at the time, I think it’s time for me to leave. It was nice talking to you, good luck with everything! Bye!” he waves goodbye. “Thanks, you too!” she waves back as Kevin pushes the wheels toward the Exit sign. “I’m sorry Danielle. I will never be able to fulfill that dream of yours. I could never become the man of your dreams because I can’t even do a simple thing as to walk with you on the beach. I hope someday a lucky guy could fulfill your dream, so that you can be truly happy……” - All I gotta say is: Don't live life with regrets. Take risks. If things don't go your way, so be it. The sky will not fall on you! =) Smiles. |
